This Instagram Fashion Brand Was Googled More Than The World's Top Designers In 2017

You probably can’t scroll through Instagram without seeing a photo of one of your favorite celebrities wearing an outfit from Fashion Nova, or seeing an ad from the affordable fashion brand. And apparently their constant presence on your Instagram feed has translated into mega-success for the women’s clothing line!

Google recently released its Year In Search 2017 data and highlighted the top ten most Google-searched brands in 2017. While Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Supreme topped the list, Fashion Nova was the fourth most searched fashion brand in the United States. And quite frankly, they were the only affordable label that made the list and beat out other luxury designers like Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior and Dolce & Gabbana. So how did an Instagram-popular, low-priced fashion brand like Fashion Nova make the list? It’s most likely due to the star power of some of its biggest fans. Celebrities like Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Amber Rose and Blac Chyna have all promoted the brand on their own Instagram feeds, and just recently, Toya Wright and Tammy Rivera were spotted in the same exact dress from Fashion Nova. Additionally with majority of everything on the site priced at under $100, who wouldn’t be tempted to shop or browse the site?!

In fashion news today

In fashion news today: Vetements is moving to men’s fashion week, the Fanning sisters get festive

It’s a family affair for Miu Miu’s latest campaign, which stars none other than two Fannings, Elle and Dakota, plus a slew of other Hollywood favourites in a festive-themed video. Called Whispers, the campaign also stars Julia Garner, Chloë Sevigny and Sadie Sink, evoking the feelings of going home for the holidays — and the whispers that go with it. Watch the video here, and wish your Christmas will be as chic as this one. Vetements has once again proved it loves to shake things up, revealing it will present its next co-ed show during men’s fashion week in Paris. Previously the brand has presented at the city’s haute couture week, but will move to January come 2018 for what will no doubt be (as usual) a memorable and highly sought after collection.

Everybody’s favourite Australian model, Jennifer Hawkins, has partnered with the equally as loved Salvation Army, for a tote bag collaboration perfect for gifting while giving back this Christmas. Available in two colours and perfect for all your gift-carrying come Christmas Day, and beach wares later in the summer, the totes are available online and in selected Salvos stores — with, of course, all the proceeds going to The Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal.

Remembering the Fashion Figures We Lost in 2017

Remembering the Fashion Figures We Lost in 2017

It’s been a roller coaster kind of year that included the loss of many creative people. Diminishing the fashion industry on the design side were the deaths of Azzedine Alaïa, Benjamin Cho, Emmanuelle Khanh, Hervé Léger, and Kenneth Jay Lane. The model known as Bimba Bosé lost her battle with breast cancer. Paris will never be quite the same without Pierre Bergé, who, with his partner, Yves Saint Laurent, forged a modern template for success in fashion by embracing prêt-à-porter and licensing, both while maintaining the tradition and excellence of haute couture. With the death of Condé Nast publisher Samuel “Si” Newhouse, Jr., an important chapter in publishing has sadly come to a close.

With her strong features, tattoos, and buzz-cut hair, Bosé demonstrated that a raw, androgynous look could be as glamorous as that of a bombshell. The unconventional Spanish model was a runway regular in the 2000s and a face of Tom Ford’s sizzling ad campaigns for Gucci.

HOW DECONSTRUCTING FASHION IS A RADICAL QUEER ACT

HOW DECONSTRUCTING FASHION IS A RADICAL QUEER ACT

Photographer Emily Lipson joined forces with designer/stylist Joe van Overbeek to examine the ways deconstructed fashion mirrors how queers are reshaping society today. By definition, the word "deconstruct" suggests stripping away at standards to unearth hidden truths — an act that's equally radical on the runway as it is on the streets, where the LGBTQ+ community has put forth a focused effort to redefine what's normal.

"In an era of fashion defined by alternative beauty sensibilities, deconstructed clothing finds a new relevancy inside the emerging queer narrative," Lipson and van Overbeek said. "The way these clothes reject the convention of construction, they make the suggestion that untraditional clothes are best suited to an untraditional body. This implication makes the clothes themselves inherently queer, as the form reject the guidelines of the body to such a degree, gender can hardly be considered."

Check out the duo's photo project, below, which highlights the work of rising Chicago-based designers and investigates how seven different models use personal style to deconstruct social norms.

Tommy Hilfiger and Gigi Hadid's final runway show will be in Milan

Tommy Hilfiger and Gigi Hadid's final runway show will be in Milan

After a number of successful seasons together, Gigi Hadid is lending her eye to yet another Tommy x Gigi collaboration, only this time the runway will be held in Milan.

For the fourth Tommy x Gigi collection, the model and designer will head to Italy’s fashion capital, Milan, for what will be Hadid’s final Tommy show.

Hosting the spring 2018 TommyNow runway, the show will include Hadid’s collection alongside men’s and women’s ready-to-wear from Hilfiger Collection — a bumper all things Tommy celebration.

Everything that goes down the runway will be available to buy straight after the show, going off the brand’s new see-now-buy-now model.

As was the case with Tommy x Gigi’s previous presentations, the show is set to be an experience in itself — if their recent circus-themed show in London, and ‘Tommy Pier’ show in New York are anything go by.

“My vision for TommyNow was to create a global platform that we could take on tour to bring our show experience to new audiences around the world,” said Tommy Hilfiger in a statement. “It’s about the fusion of fashion, entertainment and pop culture with experiences, performances and inspiring interactions that are designed around our consumers. As one of the fashion capitals of the world, Milan is the perfect place to celebrate our next TommyNow show.”

The show is set to be held on February 25 in Milan.

This Full-Body Scarf Is the Fashion World's Answer to the Snuggie

This Full-Body Scarf Is the Fashion World's Answer to the Snuggie

Have you ever found yourself torn between bundling up with a wool scarf or stepping out in a cozy sweaterdress? Well, fret no more, you can now have it both ways.

Bulgarian brand Dukyana has done the unthinkable, creating a scarf that’s actually a dress—or is it a dress that’s actually a scarf?

For $280, you can beat the winter chill by draping an eight-foot-long “chunky mohair tube scarf” from shoulder to ankle—and by drape, we mean crawl inside.

You see, the garment is truly tubular (no '80s superlative intended). It’s a knit cylindrical scarf that encapsulates your body in mohair goodness. Though you may be inclined to call it a dress, note that there are no arm holes.

Is this the office blanket upgrade we’ve been dreaming of? Perhaps.

The only downside (except for, you know, the arm holes) is that’s it’s not immediately available. According to Dukayana’s website, the item will ship 10 to 14 days after your purchase is processed—Christmas shoppers, beware!

Ridiculous, or ridiculously amazing? You be the judge.

The fashion industry can only go green by becoming unfashionable

The fashion industry can only go green by becoming unfashionable

Green is the new black, if efforts to acknowledge the environmental harm caused by the fashion industry are to be believed.

A report released yesterday by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation highlighted the damage done by our efforts to look absolutely fabulous, and they make for grim reading. The clothes industry uses a huge amount of resources to create its wares, it says, including 93 billion cubic metres of water per year for growing cotton and the like.

It also creates a vast amount of pollution, from the hazardous chemicals used during processing and dyeing, to the plastic microfibres that enter the oceans when we wash our clothes, to 1.2 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide or equivalent per year from producing fibres and turning them into clothes.

The source of some of the numbers in the report isn’t clear, but

Chic Appraised

It is easy to think of the accessibility of fast fashion as being the zeitgeist of today’s fashion market, but there is a parallel democratization of the industry at work: the role of retailer has also opened to individuals.

The smattering of Tokyo’s flea markets may have gradually become less visible — when you walk past Omotesando Hills, you are walking through the graveyard of youth markets lost — but in its place is the overwhelming success of Yahoo! Auctions and more specialised marketplaces such as Rakuten’s FRIL. These make up a revolution in second-hand shopping, albeit invisible to those who don’t use them.

Newcomer to the market is Kante, from used-goods market giant Komehyo, which launched on Nov. 7. Kante aims to reduce consumer’s fear of unreliable online sellers and fake items by acting as a middleman. For a percentage of the listing price, it offers to take receipt of sellers’ items and assess the goods’ authenticity before passing them on to purchasers. Providing this service for items with a minimum listing price of ¥10,000, there is a characteristically Japanese focus on the high end, and Kante might well appeal to those who want a bargain without the risk of getting burned.Read more at: cheap bridesmaid dresses uk | purple bridesmaid dresses online

The Royal Ontario Museum's Dr. Alexandra Palmer says its upcoming Christian Dior exhibition celebrates the legendary atelier and the women who wore its creations

One of the most meaningful post-show bows ever taken at a fashion presentation was when the entire Christian Dior atelier came out on stage at the end of its 2011 fall/winter Haute Couture collection. Fifteen-year creative head John Galliano had just been infamously dismissed, and the full team's appearance was a gesture that highlighted the fact that a designer for a brand is only one cog in the creative execution wheel.

It's that awareness that Royal Ontario Museum fashion curator Dr. Alexandra Palmer wants to impart to those who visit the museum's Christian Dior exhibit, which opens Nov. 25, and focuses on the first decade of the house from 1947 to 1957. Many of the garments that will be on display are from the ROM's own archives, donated over the years by Toronto's society set. I spoke with Dr. Palmer about how Canadian women acquired these Parisian Haute Couture garments, the genius of Christian Dior, and the lure of fashion-focused museum exhibits.
